Greenburgh may have to pay $3 million in tennis contract Wednesday, Apr 9 2008

GREENBURGH – While the town agreed to a tennis contract with a sports center company late last year to boost revenue, residents of unincorporated Greenburgh could become responsible for millions of dollars to renovate the courts

The 15-year contract says Sportime would spend $2 million to $3 million on improvements to renovate five of the Town’s tennis courts and replace another two courts with four more.

However, some residents are upset by a provision in the pact that says the town must reimburse Sportime up to $3 million if a legal ruling says the tennis courts can only be used by unincorporated-area residents.

The town now faces this penalty clause after winning an appeal in a lawsuit over Taxter Ridge Park in February, since the contract states that the courts shall be open to all town and villages residents within Greenburgh.

GREENBURGH – The Valhalla school district mishandled $456,400 of educational grants from the town of Greenburgh, according to a financial audit by the state comptroller

The audit says the school district lacked sufficient oversight of financial operations, failed to comply with state bidding laws and overpaid $38,500 for an employee’s insurance premiums.

The mishandled money came from annual payments of $650,000 the town of Greenburgh was giving the school district to cover costs associated with a homeless shelter.

Greenburgh tax ruling on Taxter Ridge Park is overturned Wednesday, Apr 9 2008

The Journal News

February 17, 2008

GREENBURGH – An appellate court has ruled in favor of Greenburgh and reversed a decision that required the town to seek taxes from its villages and incorporated areas to support Taxter Ridge Park.

The case stemmed from a lawsuit filed against the town by Bob Bernstein, who lives in the unincorporated area of Edgemont within the town. Bernstein argued that the park should be funded by all Greenburgh taxpayers. Until the lawsuit, only unincorporated residents paid for the costs of maintaining town parks.
