MOUNT PLEASANT – Beginning in the spring, the town will become the first municipality in Westchester County to infuse video technology in its court system.

The Westchester County Department of Correction will use the town’s courtroom as a pilot site to test a videoconferencing system, hoping to reduce expenses to transport inmates and increase safety in the building, which houses other municipal departments.

The system will allow inmates to attend arraignments and other general court appearances without leaving the county jail building in Valhalla.

SLEEPY HOLLOW – With the help of their guardian angels, students in the Pocantico Hills Central School have little worry about being bullied.

The Society of Guardian Angels, an anti-bullying group, helps protect students who are teased by their peers.

School counselor Jim McVeigh began the program in 2005 after dealing with an unsocial student who was constantly tormented by his peers.

The school’s society —which now has more than 60 guardian angels—is based on the Alliance of Guardian Angels, a community group popular in the 1970s and 1980s for their community cleanups and safety patrols.
