State denies appeal of Pleasantville schools’ $37M bond referendum Saturday, Oct 27 2007

PLEASANTVILLE – Opponents of a $37 million renovation plan for the Pleasantville school district vowed yesterday to keep fighting despite the state Education Department’s rejection of their challenge.

Education Commissioner Richard Mills ruled in favor of the district and dismissed an appeal for a $37.25 million borrowing plan to expand and renovate Pleasantville High School.

The funds would be used to make electrical, boiler and roof improvements, as well as create offices, add 12 classrooms and renovate existing space.

PLEASANTVILLE – The Westchester County Human Rights Commission and three local school districts partnered to host a two-session education forum on discrimination and prejudice yesterday.

Teachers, school administrators and faculty members from the Pleasantville, Briarcliff Manor and Pocantico Hills school districts attended the afternoon forum featuring noted educator and diversity trainer Jane Elliot, best known for her controversial study “Blues Eyes, Brown Eyes.”

Robbery at home – likely ex-Knick’s – spurs Harrison H.S. lockdown Monday, Oct 15 2007

Ardsley teacher wins a Siemens Science Award Monday, Oct 1 2007

ARDSLEY – Martha Snegroff, who has been teaching for 43 years, recieved a Siemens Science Teacher Award last month. The award recognizes exceptional achievements in technology, science and math.

Snegroff also recently appeared on a Good Morning America segment about teachers who use advance learning tools in the classroom.
